When LiftMaster introduced their new lineup of 3.0 garage door openers, the first thing I noticed is every model now comes standard with a built-in camera. The most basic model for purchase is the 2220L, which is a chain drive unit that has a fixed camera facing the garage door.

Soon after the release, it came to our attention there were two other models that did not have a camera. These models are the LiftMaster 2100L and 2300L. Let’s take a closer look at what makes these two units different.

LiftMaster 2100L and 2300L for New Construction Only

LiftMaster has designated these models for new construction home builders and can only be purchased if you receive approval from the manufacturer. A garage door company must prove they are installing these units for a home builder, and approval is based on a minimum quantity requirement.

If you have one of these units in your home, it was most likely installed while the home was being built. These units are not available for purchase to be retailed to homeowners.

Builder Units vs. Retail Units

The LiftMaster 2100L and 2300L garage door openers can be compared directly to their retail counterparts… the 2220L and 2420L. So, what are the differences?

All of these units feature a DC motor. The main difference is LiftMaster has rated the 2100L and 2300L units as 1/2HP and the 2220L and 2420L as 3/4HP. I do not know how this rating was achieved because the specs show all units to have the same motor.

The second major difference is the 2220L and 2420L units come with a built-in camera, while the 2100L and 2300L models do not.

Differences Between the LiftMaster 2100L and 2300L

The only difference between these two models is the battery backup. The LiftMaster 2300L has an internal battery that can power the garage door opener when the electricity goes out.

Conclusion

If you have one of the LiftMaster 2100L or 2300L openers installed in your garage, you most likely have a home that was built in 2025 or newer. If you’re looking for a retail garage door opener without a camera, you might have to look elsewhere, unless LiftMaster decides to change their requirements.
