LiftMaster has completely redesigned their residential outdoor keypads with a new design and included their myQ technology in all models. This is the first time major changes have been made to their keypad lineup in years. The new design has a more robust industrial feel and no longer has a cover over the keypad buttons.

The new LiftMaster L979 keypad comes in three models which are the L979S, L979M, and the L979U. All three keypads are virtually identical from the outside, except for the LiftMaster logo featured on the universal model. These keypads are also available under the Chamberlain brand in the models CH348 and CHU48.

LiftMaster L979S Keypad

The LiftMaster L979S outdoor keypad is only compatible with newer LiftMaster and Chamberlain garage door openers that have a white learn button and use their new 3.0 technology. This model features one-touch close, in-app PIN management, and the keys are illuminated for ease of use at night.

LiftMaster L979M Keypad

The LiftMaster L979M outdoor keypad is compatible with newer LiftMaster openers with a white learn button. It will also program to most Chamberlain, LiftMaster and Craftsman garage door openers with safety sensors manufactured after 1997, except for the Craftsman Series 100.

This is going to include LiftMaster, Chamberlain, and Craftsman units with a yellow, purple, brown, orange, or red learn button. It features one-touch close and the keys are illuminated for ease of use at night.

The Chamberlain CH348 outdoor keypad will be identical to the LiftMaster L979M outdoor keypad in function and compatibility. The only difference is the housing is going to have the Chamberlain name.
