The Wayne Dalton 9100 garage door is one of the most common models of doors installed by home builders. The vertical short panel is the most popular, which consists of a square stamp with vertical lines. This design is also called short panel bead board or short grooved panel.

If you have one of these garage doors installed on your home and a panel gets damaged, there is a good chance a replacement might not be available. Wayne Dalton changed the outside stamp on the panels around August 2024. This means if your garage door was manufactured before this date, a replacement section will not be available unless a dealer has older inventory in stock.

Let’s take a look at how you can easily identify if a replacement section is available for your Wayne Dalton 9100 garage door.

How to Identify if You Have a Wayne Dalton 9100 Garage Door

A Wayne Dalton 9100 garage door is going to have a paper like material on the inside over the polyurethane insulation. The manufacturer calls this material a ToughGard Backer. You are also going to see built in struts at the top and bottom of each section of the garage door. The manufacturer puts these in place to add rigidity, since the sections mainly rely on the polyurethane foam insulation for strength.

How Do You Know If You Can Get a Replacement Section?

The easiest way to tell if you can get a replacement section for your Wayne Dalton 9100 garage door is to see if it has a shadow groove. A shadow groove is a stamped line at the top and bottom of each garage door section on the exterior. New Wayne Dalton 9100 sections manufactured after August 2024 will have a shadow groove. Older sections will not.

Do The New Replacements Sections Match the Old Sections?

While I have not seen a new panel installed on an older door, our local distributor has informed us the outside stamped design will not match up. He was explicit in saying it is very obvious that the outside stamp on the panels does not line up.

If you have a Wayne Dalton 9100 garage door with an arched top panel, and it needs replacement, you are out of luck. Wayne Dalton is no longer manufacturing replacement sections with the arched top stamp.

Conclusion

It can be frustrating when a replacement section is not available for your garage door. This trend is becoming more common with manufacturers who mainly supply doors for the home building industry. One can only guess why these changes are made if there is nothing wrong with the original design.
