Genie Company recalls 18,000 PowerMax & TriloG screw drive garage door openers sold in the United States and Canada due to a possible fire hazard. The control board can overheat causing the unit to catch fire. If you own one of these units, call the Genie 800 number to have your unit repaired.

Description: This recall involves Genie and Genie Pro screw drive garage door openers, models PowerMax 1200 and 1500, and TriloG 1200 and 1500. The garage openers are gray and have a rating of ¾ HPc to 1 HPc, depending on the model. “Genie” and the model name appear on both sides of the opener. The model and serial numbers are printed on a label located on the side opposite to the light. Serial numbers for the recalled units start with the following five numbers:

Incidents/Injuries: Genie has received four reports of the control board overheating. No injuries have been reported.

Remedy: Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled garage door opener and contact Genie to receive a free repair kit, which includes a new control board and installation instructions.
